Retaining Walls

Permit Required

In Guelph, retaining walls over 600mm (24") in height require a building permit and engineer's drawings. Walls in Puslinch follow similar rules under the Ontario Building Code. We coordinate all engineering and permit submissions.

Interlocking Driveways

Sometimes Required

New driveways or significant expansions may require a driveway entrance permit from the City of Guelph, especially where curb cuts are involved. Rural properties in Puslinch may require a road entrance permit from Wellington County.

Patios & Walkways

Generally Not Required

Ground-level patios and walkways typically do not require permits in Guelph or Puslinch. However, raised patios (over 600mm above grade) or those attached to the home may require a building permit.

Pergolas & Structures

Permit Required

Pergolas, gazebos, and covered structures over 10m² require a building permit in Guelph. Freestanding structures on rural Puslinch properties may be exempt depending on size and use.

Grading & Drainage

Sometimes Required

Significant grading changes that affect drainage patterns or neighbouring properties may require a grading permit or approval under Guelph's site alteration by-law. We assess each project individually.

Landscape Lighting

Not Required

Low-voltage LED landscape lighting systems do not require permits. Line-voltage systems (120V) require an electrical permit and licensed electrician, which we coordinate as part of your project.
